Welcome to the Poverty - Wellbeing Platform
Why this website?
One fifth of the world's population still lives in absolute poverty, and the concerns of poor people continue to feature insufficiently in the design of development policies. Whilst much has been written on the subject, it is not always easy to find material in one place – and particularly clear, succinct information on how development practitioners can shape their field programmes, and their contributions to policy dialogue, in a “pro-poor” manner. The “Poverty – Well-being” platform seeks to provide such information, organised around key themes. Whilst the platform was being launched at the end of 2006, it is very much a work in progress; additional papers and other products will be uploaded over time. Feedback on all that is offered is very welcome. Please contact us!

What are the themes?
The platform is organised around key themes, selected on the basis of expressed demand by SDC staff. They are
Pro Poor Policy Making
Sustainable Livelihood Approaches
Empowerment
Poverty
What the site offers
The platform provides a window on state-of-the-art knowledge as well as making available practical tools, complemented where possible by short descriptions of field experiences. Amongst the resources available, a number have been tailor-made for SDC, building on evidence-based learning from SDC’s projects. In addition, selected resources produced by other divisions in SDC and by other organizations are included. Through the Poverty-Well-being platform you can also seek suggestions and support directly from our resource persons.
Intended users
The virtual platform is intended to support field practitioners and those involved in policy dialogue. It is aimed primarily at SDC staff and partners who wish to learn more about poverty and well being, and need such information for their regular work. It is likely to be of wider interest to those working in development agencies other than SDC, in all parts of the world.
Who runs it?
The platform is coordinated by a group of resource persons from SDC and is supported by the backstopping partners Intercooperation and the Overseas Development Institute.
This platform supported by SDC is not the official website and does not necessarily represent the official views of SDC. For SDC's official positions please visit the SDC website.
