Experience Sharing on Sustainable Livelihood Approaches in Pakistan

On April 21st, 2009, SDC and the Canadian Hunger Foundation (CHF) co-hosted a one-day workshop on Sustainable Livelihoods Approaches at the Swiss Cooperation Office, Pakistan.

Recognising that there are a variety of different livelihoods programmes and approaches being supported in NWFP and the rest of Pakistan, the overall objective of the workshop was to network and learn from experiences of each others and identify possibilities for collaboration. Along with others, the approach applied in SDC’s Livelihoods Programme, implemented by Intercooperation, was shared with participants. In addition to the co-hosts, the workshop was also attended by a number of other donors and implementing partners. The workshop participants discussed approaches to promoting sustainable livelihoods following three main themes:

  • Working with and for poor people
  • Supportive policy and institutional framework
  • Food security

A report synthesizing the workshop proceedings is available for downloading at right. For more information about SDC's activities in Pakistan, please consult http://www.sdcpakistan.org
