Poverty Focus in Swiss Cooperation Strategies: Making it explicit!

This two pager states that enhancing the poverty focus in cooperation strategies implies that the overall goal of the strategy is translated into verifiable poverty reduction outcomes in each of the thematic domains. In order to make sure that a sectoral strategy is pro-poor, five dimensions have to be considered: (I) policy making, (II) the implementation of policies, (III) the support to projects of livelihood improvement, (IV) the feed back from the livelihood to the policy level and (V) the transversal themes of gender and governance.

Does SDC reach the poorest people?

SoDev undertook an internal learning exercise on the central question of "How to reach the poorest people?". Based on evidence from SDC project case studies in the field of education, health, water and rural development, SoDev came up with 11 frequently asked questions that address the main challenges and strategies in building pro-poorest interventions. SoDev then provided answers to enhance better understanding of the situation of the poorest, outlining explicit inclusive strategies. Download (Pdf 33 kb English  German)
